 Fabric API is a core library for several kinds of stuff required by mods. It is a great tool that compiles the most common hooks and intercompatibility measures needed by people when they are creating modifications for Minecraft. Fabric API also is indispensable for the Minecraft to install new mods.



Fabric API is not the Fabric ModLoader; they are two separate things. However, you need both tools to could have the most mods. Up next, we explain to you how to install mods with Fabric, but first, you need to know how to set up Fabric API and its partner.

Fabric Modloader an alternative to Forge

Fabric API is part of a big project called Fabric which provides tools to the community to create maps and mods. It is relatively new, was announced in December 2018, and only works for Minecraft 1.14.4 and higher versions. If you are using one of the oldest version of Minecraft, you can’t use the Fabric API to install the new mods. There’s another ModLoaders like Minecraft Forge 1.16.4.

Installing Fabric in MultiMC Launcher

  1. If you choose to use the recommended option, you have to go to the Fabric website, click on the tab “use” and search for the MultiMC launcher. Choose the loader and mapping versions of your game and click “copy MultiMC instance URL.” Sample: https://fabricmc.net/download/multimc?yarn=1.14%2Bbuild.7&loader=0.4.6%2Bbuild.141
  2. Then, start MultiMC and click “Add Instance” in the top-left, select “Import from ZIP” and paste the link in the text field. Next, set an instance name, like “Fabric ModLoader” to avoid the “MultiMC” default name. To finish, press OK.
  3. Your Fabric ModLoader instance is ready to go. Remember that it is necessary to install Fabric API too.
  4. You can find Fabric API in CurseForge website or click here. Download, and look for it in the pc files.
  5. In the Windows Start menu, click Run, then enter %appdata%\.minecraft\ in the box.
  6. Create a mod folder inside your Minecraft directory if it does not exist yet and put the Fabric API file in it. Then, on the boot screen, you will see that Fabric is installed. And now everything is ready to add mods to the game!

Installing Fabric in Vanilla Launcher (Recommended)

  1. First, you have to upgrade Minecraft to 1.16.2.
  2. Download the Fabric Modloader 1.16.2  and Fabric API.
  3. Open the Fabric Installer and press “Install.”
  4. To install the Fabric API.
    • In the Windows Start menu, click Run, then enter %appdata%\.minecraft\ in the box.
    • Create a mod folder inside your Minecraft directory if it does not exist yet and put the Fabric API file in it.
  5. A new game version and profile will be created in the vanilla launcher’s menu, which you can now use to launch Fabric.
